The Last Thing On My Mind

I may have mentioned this before...I live just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Last night the Pittsburgh Steelers lost a game. This morning the local news stations were say things like "people are too depressed to even go to work" and "it's going to take some time for fans to get over this one". Now, I consider myself a Steelers fan, but my life does not revolve around whether they win or lose. I've watched them win 5 Super Bowls and watched them lose one. I felt the same way the day after the loss that I did the day after the wins. Other than watching the games on TV, and on rare occasions, in person, I have no affiliation with the team whatsoever. So why should I get upset if they lose? Why should anyone other than the players coaches and owners get upset over a loss. Well, maybe some gamblers who were stupid enough to bet the farm. So who are these people who are too depressed to go to work after a loss? Are their lives that empty that they get emotionally involved in a football game? The NFL after all is rally a kind of entertainment. Like a movie. Would someone get depressed after seeing a really bad movie? OK, I guess I was kind of in a funk after seeing "Posieden" earlier this year. Seriously, it doesn't matter to me if someone devote his or her entire lives to a football team. I just hope that they give as much attention to their families and loved ones. I mean, if you can get emotionally involved in bunch of strangers playing a game, you should have more than enough time for real life.
Thank you for your time.

I used to have a goldfish. I named it Winston after John Lennon. They're both dead now. Lennon was murdered. I think Winston committed suicide. I found a tiny little bottle of sleeping pills in his tiny little castle. Why do we put castles in aquariums anyway? Do fish living in the wild have castles? How do you build a moat under water? I think we give our pet fish castles to make them feel better about their lives. "I swim around in my own waste all day, but at least I got that castle." I wouldn't want to live in a castle. All those torches and purple drapes...not my style. I'd like to have a tower, though. And a moat. Then I could sit in my tower and shoot flaming arrows at the door-to-door Jesus freaks who are trying to cross the moat and save my soul. I don't need no soul savin'. I don't even like angel food cake. I prefer pie. Blueberry. I used to like lemon meringue, til I had a bad food poisoning episode. Spent that entire day on the can. Got a lot of reading done. That's where I do most of my reading. I should make a t-shirt that says "Everything I Know I Learned While Squashing One Out". I suspect it would be a big seller. Don't be stealing my idea, now. I don't want to walk into Spencer's next week and see my saying on a shirt. I'd be so mad I could just, you know, go to the reading room. That's enough frivolity for now. I'm outta here. Have fun storming the castle!
Thank you for your time.

The 5th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America is upon us. All of the networks are showing specials and documentaries to help remind us what a horrible day that was. I, for one do not need to be reminded. The atrocities of that day are burned into my memory forever. Every time an airplane flies overhead, I can't help but think of that day. The words "terrorist" or "terrorism" are mentioned almost daily on the news. I see "God Bless America" magnets and stickers on cars every day. I don't remember seeing too many of those before 9/11. There are movies being made about that day. "Flight 93" and "World Trade Center". The producers of these movies will say that these stories had to be told, that people need to know what happened on that day. Then they turn around and charge us ten bucks to see it. If your movie is such a great public service, then why are you profiting from it? Thankfully, these movies had lower than expected box office earnings. That tells me that many, if not most, Americans are not ready or willing to re-live the events of that day. I will not, I CANNOT forget what happened to my country on September 11, 2001. I do not need the media to give me constant reminders. I will do my best to avoid all the specials and documentaries commemorating the anniversary of the attacks. I will look back on that day in my own way, with sadness, anger, and, I hate to admit, a little bit of hatred.
Thank you for your time.

There is a fugitive on the loose in New York. His name is Bucky Phillips. He is a cop killer. A low-life piece of shit coward. There are actually some people in and around his home town that are treating him as a hero. These people are also low-life pieces of shit. I hope the police catch this "hero" alive. I hope he gets a fair trial and is sent to the worst possible prison imaginable. And night after night, while he's being passed around from boyfriend to boyfriend, I hope the faces of every person he has ever done harm to passes through his tiny mind with each painful thrust where the sun don't shine. As for the people who are idolizing this guy...I hope that someday one of your loved ones is harmed by a person just like Bucky. Then I will hang a sign cheering that person on.
Steve Irwin is dead. News of his death was not a real big surprise to me. His occupation of choice pretty much dictated how he would die. My guess would have been snake bite. Most people probably would have guessed crocodile attack, but that would have been very unlikely considering the number of handlers nearby. His death, while not completely unexpected, was still tragic. He was fairly young and left behind two young children. There are other people out there whose deaths won't take me by surprise. David Blaine, for instance, is bound to die while performing some bizarre "illusion". And it's a sure bet one of those "Jackass" guys is going to impale himself on something while doing a "stunt". And Britney Spears is surely going to fatally injure herself while attempting to walk and chew gum at the same time.
Thank you for your time.
